After several years of life on the East Coast, CJ has come back to his hometown of Los Santos to go to the funeral of his mother, who was killed in a drive-by shooting. No sooner does he arrive, he is stopped by local police. The police suggest that they plan to blame CJ for a recent killing unless he is willing to act as a helper for the officers. With no choice, CJ agrees. The police then leave him in the middle of a rival gang’s area.

The world of San Andreas is huge and there’s so much to do that players will often find it hard to decide what path to take. More than once during the game I found myself fully pulled in by the story, only to get distracted by some other activity that ended up being just as fun.

Flying is usually the fastest way to go long distances but the game doesn’t let you fly until much later in the story. So until then, it’s often easier to drive everywhere and the countryside has a mountain, hills, rivers and different levels of land, all of which can block you from taking off-road shortcuts without having to get out and run, swim, and/or switch vehicles at some points. You can use boats to move on the water and the Vortex is one of the best choices for getting through the countryside. It’s a hovercraft that can go on both land and water but you need to know where to find one.
